New Lesson 'Advanced Grass Techniques' Just Released
Grass is probably one of the most requested subjects I’m asked to cover in a lesson. I know I’ve demonstrated similar techniques in other tutorials, but in this lesson I wanted to slow things down and explore the subject in a little more detail.
In this three part lesson, we’ll look closely at layering, creating fine, sharp lines and building convincing depth and texture. More importantly, I’ll show you how to paint the grass that is actually in front of you, rather than the version of grass that you think should be there. By carefully observing the shapes, colours, edges and direction of growth, you can create a much more natural and realistic result.
It’s a slower, more considered approach, but taking your time allows you to notice the subtle changes in colour, direction and texture that make grass feel natural. By the end, you should feel much more confident using these techniques in your own paintings and creating results with greater depth, movement and realism.
Happy painting
